Pirates 8 Mets 4

July 26, 2007
Thursday afternoon
With Erik
Shea Stadium

Despite partaking in one of my most favorite summertime activities (mid week afternoon baseball), this day blew. And to think that it had started on such a promising note.

Oliver Perez was looking great through five innings having only allowed one infield hit. But a broken bat single by the 8th place hitter (Nate McLouth), followed by an infield hit by the pitcher Paul Maholm led to Perez throwing a ball away (1 run) which led to a Xavier Nady line shot that David Wright couldn't handle (2 runs) which then led to a Josh Phelps 2 run homerun. Ugly.

The Pirates added 3 more in the 7th. Blah! This was also the second game in a row that Erik and I had to sit through an 8-4 drubbing of the Mets against a lesser opponent. And this one didn't even include soup dumplings afterwards.

Camp Day is always so colorful.
To make matters worse, John Travolta and Robin Williams were shooting some movie where they are playing married grandparents? That I might see - unfortunately the truth is a lot lamer. Back in the 90's, I attended a game at Camden Yards the night that a scene from Dave was filmed. Exciting, huh?
Coach Ricky always was a big fan of Look Who's Talking Too.
Thank you Johnny for blessing us with your presence. Robin Williams was too coked up to stand up and acknowledge the proletariat.
SHR sent me this text message from work.
Erik, sunglasses, and Shea
After the game, Erik and I got splashed by Coke that some camp kids had thrown from the exit ramp. Nice.

Three days after this game, I was haunted by John Travolta again.
