Wednesday

Helena Brewers 15 Missoula Osprey 8

July 1, 2008
Wednesday night
With Erik and Marc
Missoula, MT

The Brewers got their revenge from the previous night's no-hitter. And then some. It was a slugfest. Each team hit 3 home runs. There were three triples. Not that either team needed any more help, but there also was an obvious foul ball called a home run. And, most excitingly, we got to see Cutter Dykstra play in his fourth professional game.

I love Missoula. This was my fourth time there. Uncle Brian, Aunt Rosemary, and cousins Jason and Leah used to live there.
Early in the game, Marc disappeared for a stretch. Erik and I thought we saw behind him the centerfield wall talking on the phone. So I called him to say hi. He let us know that he wasn't even in the ballpark. He got some tips on bars, found them, found a hotel nearby, and tried to book a room. But he didn't like the price. So he went to the local library, got on the Internet, booked a room at the same hotel on Priceline, and went right back to check in at the cheaper rate. On this night, Marc had no time for baseball - it was all about not wasting any drinking and carousing time.

I'm kind of obsessed with that M. It is harder to walk to than you think it would be.

I love ballparks where fans can watch the game for free outside the ballpark.

Ready to party! Ow!

how did marc get to the library? did he drive? missoula just doesn't strike me as a walkable kind of town.

yeah, he drove.

it is a walkable town depending on where you are.

The drive wasn't a long one.

The ballpark is within walking distance of the hotel. Probably 20 minutes or so.

those big letters one the side of mountains are a bit of a phenomenon out there. i think the BYU "Y" may be the originator.

i knew there was a resource for this out there. here's a whole section of a website devoted to "mountain monograms".

Missoula's M is the best of all the mountain monograms. We lived at the base of Mt. Sentinel under the M. Dan took his first hike up there as a child. Missoula is one of the best places!!!!
