Thursday night
with Erik
Camden Yards
Erik and I dropped the boys off at my parents' house for my sister to babysit them and it was time for games on back-to-back nights. Erik and I had been talking about seeing a game at Camden Yards for years. The timing was perfect as he got to see his favorite team in his first ever trip to the ballpark in Baltimore. Little did we know that we'd be seeing three of the four teams to play in the championship series on successive nights.
Only 14,000 other fans had any interest in attending the game though. Plus I think that number is greatly inflated. It still makes me so sad to go to games in an empty Camden Yards.
Remember the days when the line at that Boardwalk Fries was super long?

We spent the first couple of innings down the line.
It was fun watching the interplay between the outfielders and the crowd. Since it was so dead quiet, fans were guaranteed to be heard by the players.
At one point, a fan yelled out to Adam Jones, "Hey Adam!" Jones tipped his cap. The fan yelled, "What's up?" Jones looked at the fan and shrugged his shoulders in a "Hey man, I'm playing for a team 37 games under .500 and there is no one at this game. That's what's up" kind of way.
We moved to better seats.
We had a good view of the verbal scuffle between Ty Wigginton and Andres Blanco who didn't like that Wigginton wasn't playing like he should have been on a team 37 games under .500. Apparently, Wigginton blocked third with his knee as Blanco slid headfirst into the bag. Bawlmor will miss you Ty!

The game was great - for an Orioles fan. Brian Matusz threw 8 shutout innings, the Birds scored 4 in the 7th, there were great diving plays all night, and the Orioles improved to 11-6 under Buck Showalter.
Closing it out.
Orioles: 43-79
Rangers: 67-53
