Rays 9 Pirates 5

March 25, 2011
Friday afternoon
with Jamie, Marc, and Jim
Port Charlotte, FL

Now this is what I was hoping for from a spring training game! Especially after the events from the night before. No need for advance tickets. Sun, relaxation, and a chance to be close to the players. I can't wait to take my first family vacation to Port St. Lucie in a few years.

We settled in on a grassy knoll.

Smartphones ruined the spring training trip.

I love spring training.

Jamie and I took a walk around the park. This picture was taken moments before we were told by an usher not to lean on the fence.

These clowns weren't told squat.

I love spring training.

Hangover Jim spent the game at the bar in the shade nursing a ginger ale or something.

I love spring training.

This is probably my favorite baseball photo from the trip.
Right after I took this photo, a couple of dudes from Cleveland chatted up the coach inquiring about the speed of Peralta's pitches. He didn't know so he asked Peralta and then reported back to the fans. That sort of interaction would not happen during a regular season game. At least not in New York.

Jamie thought I was crazy but something about this sign reminded me of a sign at a Nazi concentration camp. Work will set you free! We are one team! Go Rays!

They sold beer until the very last out. I love spring training. This vendor's name was Fungus.

This game was notable for being the last time I saw Manny being Manny in person. Thanks for the memories Manny!
