Wednesday night
with Marc and Erik
Calfee Park, Pulaski, VA
Check out this awesome place! Calfee Park - originally built in 1935 as part of the WPA.
We all loved this ballpark. We had never even heard of it before this trip. It was mellow and kind of awesome. It was so mellow that there was no dizzy bat race or 7th inning dance off or anything. It was so mellow that the kids didn't even chase after foul balls. In fact, was it awesome or was it too Twilight Zone-like?
Marc was in love with the section of suites which are pictured below - basically they were just picnic benches.
I proposed that we go sit in the empty "suite" reserved for the Pulaski Community Hospital. Erik noticed a seat reserved for Dr. Herman. We contemplated impersonating the good doctor.
A few minutes later, a Pulaski hitter was hit in the head by a throw from the Danville catcher in a failed pick off attempt at first. For a brief moment, we felt fortunate that we hadn't pretended to be doctors. Paging Dr. Herman. Paging Dr. Herman.

After the batter recovered his senses, he remained in the game. The very next pitch was a 2 run home run! Take that Danville! And Dr. Herman's services weren't even needed.
I couldn't get enough of the trees, the hills, the houses, the houses on the hills.
Erik took a picture of me through the Danville team bus.
And I took a picture of him.
